901D, LLC CONTRACTS ASP SERVICES FROM CARROLL-NET, IMPLEMENTS CUTTING-EDGE BUSINESS SYSTEMS 901D, LLC, a designer and manufacturer of shock-resistant enclosures for military uses, has contracted Carroll-Net to serve as its Application Services Provider (ASP) and to assist in the selection and implementation of cutting-edge business systems that will allow the firm to continue on its rapid evolution. This includes an updated Manufacturing Resource Program (MRP) from Made2Manage, and the design of a new, e-commerce web site. Based in Tallman, New York, 901D derives its name from a military specification called MIL-S-901D, used by the U.S. Navy for shock requirements that simulate depth charge explosions near a ship. The firm’s cabinets protect commercial off-the-shelf equipment used by the military and the communications industry from shock, vibration and radio interference in extreme environments. A full-service Internet company based in Hackensack, New Jersey, Carroll-Net is one of the first companies in New Jersey to offer “total solution” ASP services. In this respect, the firm functions similarly to a traditional service bureau that manages and delivers its clients’ enterprise data and applications across a wide area network. In addition, ASP clients have instant access to their data from anywhere via the Internet. According to Jim Carroll, president of Carroll-Net, by choosing an ASP, 901D positioned itself to take advantage of the must current, leading technologies. “An ASP can eliminate many hurdles associated with expanding, including the risks involved in purchasing and managing additional IT,” he explained. “Because applications operate at the ASP site and are accessed on-line, issues of connecting remote offices are eliminated. Security measures and system maintenance are addressed around the clock. Plus, IT becomes a fixed expense; clients pay a monthly subscription fee for the technology and services they desire.” For 901D, this has allowed the firm to update and expand its CAD application, a critical tool in the firm’s engineering, document management and approval processes. In addition, the new MRP system will enable the firm to harness its extensive experience in creating custom engineered solutions and integrate a highly efficient purchasing and vendor management system. “In the past, our engineers have created drawings of our cabinets in AutoCAD, but the process for approving the configurations, printing the drawings and performing quality control have continued on a manual basis,” Frank Duvergne, vice president of operations for 901D. “When the implementation is complete, these tasks will be fully integrated. Anyone connected to our network will be able to access any of the information pertinent to a particular project at any time, from anywhere. Our efficiency will increase exponentially.” According to Duvergne, the shift to ASP will also enable the opening of e-commerce channels. “This is a distinct advantage for us,” he said. “We will showcase our capabilities on the new web site Carroll-Net is creating, and we will be able to conduct business electronically. This is a distinct advantage not previously afforded by our old business system.” Because it provides new avenues for small and mid-size businesses to maximize the benefits of technology outsourcing, the ASP market is among the hottest in the information technology (IT) service industry today. “Our ASP clientele is growing quickly, as more companies like 901D recognize the benefits of outsourcing the combined IT infrastructure, implementation and management services,” Carroll said. “Ultimately, ASP is an all-encompassing model for the integration and usage of Internet, Intranet and Extranet.” ### Founded in 1994, Carroll-Net is a premier Internet company providing total Internet and Intranet solutions. In addition to ASP, this includes Internet access, message services, business web services, e-commerce capabilities and developments, and web design services. Carroll-Net is a unique Internet company in that the firm has been profitable since its inception. Carroll-Net services approximately 3,000 customers primarily in the New Jersey/New York metropolitan area, including 1,000 commercial customers involved in diverse industries. Carroll-Net’s client niche includes companies ranging from 50 to 500 users, but the firm’s customers are as large as 5,000 employees with operations worldwide. The company continues to expand its client base and services to meet the dynamic demands of today’s business environment. Carroll-Net, Inc. Copyright, Carroll-Net, Inc. 2000 |
