| How
are we notified when new mail arrives? |
|
Your
Message Server will come pre-configured to check for new
Internet E-Mail once every 30-minutes. If new E-Mail
arrives addressed to you, it will be downloaded and put
into your personal mailbox. Your mail client will then
alert you (either visually or audibly) that you have new
mail.

| How
can I know mail I sent was received? |
| At
present, there is no Internet standard for notifying the
sender that an E-Mail message has been received by the
recipient. You will however be notified if the message
could not be delivered. The Server will re-attempt
delivery for up to 5 days. If the message could not be
delivered in that time, your will receive your message
back with an explanation as to why the message did not
go through.

| How
long does it take for E-Mail to be delivered? |
|
There
is no way to know in advance exactly how long an E-Mail
message will take to be delivered through the Internet.
A message on it's journey through the net may be relayed
by several servers. Each of these servers may in turn
add delay. Some of these server may even be temporarily
offline, causing further delays.
The
typical case however is for a message to be delivered
within a few seconds of sending it.

| I
am not a local call to Carroll-Net. Can I still use the
Message Server? |
|
The
Carroll-Net Message Server will work with any dialup PPP
account anywhere in the world. Once the server connects
to the Internet, it will come through the net to the
Carroll-Net servers to retrieve it's E-Mail.
If
you are not a local call to Carroll-Net, you can use any
local Internet Service Provider to provide access to the
Internet.
