| How
much training is required to use the Message Server? |
|
The
Carroll-Net Message Server is actually quite simple to
operate and requires very little training on it's use.
The server includes a simple to use management program
which gives you the ability to create and manage E-Mail
addresses on your server.
The
more complex components of managing the Message Server
is left up to Carroll-Net. We handle the details of

| We
have two offices. Can the Carroll-Net Message Server

can split your domain between any number of different
offices. Each office can have it's own Message Server to
send and receive E-Mail with each other as well as to
the Internet.

| If
our Message Server is offline due to a power failure,
what happens to our E-Mail? |
|
The
Message Server uses "store-and-forward"
technology to deliver email to your network. Mail sent
to your organization while you are offline is stored on
the Carroll-Net servers. When you connect, the mail is
automatically downloaded to your server.
If
your server is offline due to power failure, then the
mail will queue on the Carroll-Net servers. Once power
is restored to your facility, your Message Server will
connect to the Internet, and download the queued E-Mail.

| How
many users can be supported on one Message Server? |
|
The
Message Server hardware has been
"over-engineered" in several key areas. The
CPU, RAM and Disk Space could comfortably support up to
1000 users.
The
Message Server comes with a dialup 56k high speed
modem. It is estimated that this could comfortably
support up to 100 active E-Mail users. Above this level,
your modem would need to be upgraded to support more
bandwidth. Since the Server has a wide range of upgrade
options available, there are many different speed
enhancements available when the time comes that your
network has grown beyond this point.

|
| We
have other services with a local Internet provider? Do
we need to switch providers to use the Message Server? |
|
The
Message Server does not require altering any of your
existing business relationships. You can continue to use
your existing ISP with your Message Server. The Message
Server supports any PPP dialup account.
If
you have already registered a domain with the InterNIC,
it may be necessary to make a minor modification to your
domain record. You Internet provider will need to add an
MX record to forward your E-Mail to the Carroll-Net
Message Server handlers. Carroll-Net will handle this
detail with your Internet provider.

|
| Is
the Message Server secure? |
|
Yes!
(simple answer right)
The
Server is secure on three levels. The first is user
security. Each E-Mail address is assigned a unique
account and password. This password is stored in an
encrypted format on the Message Server. Modification of
passwords requires authorization from the mail
administrator, which has been predesignated as a trusted
user in your organization.
The
second level of security is the administrator's
password. A password is required to view or change any
aspect of the Message Server's configuration.
The
third level of security is the assignment of private IP
addresses to machines on your LAN. This means your
Message Server acts as a firewall with no possibility of
anyone gaining unauthorized access.
