| Simple
Use |
|
Here's how it works.
The built-in modem dials up and connects to your local Internet
account or through any type of dedicated connectivity already in
place. (Note: If you do not have an account, Carroll-Net
will assist you in setting one up). The Message Server automatically
downloads all incoming mail at your domain name and delivers all
outgoing mail over the Internet. Incoming mail is separated and
delivered to each user at their workstations. Any email program will
work, but uniformity is advisable.
The Carroll-Net Message Server comes with a simple to use web- based
management system (CNMS). Its simple interface provides direct
control over the Message Server. Armed
with this tool, you can quickly create, modify and delete e-mail
addresses on your Message Server. The explorer style window is
intuitive and makes using the CNMS a snap. Its quick response and intelligent feedback
frees you from the tedious task of having to manage the details of
e-mail.

|
The
Carroll-Net Message Server’s fault tolerant design ensures
reliable mail delivery. The Carroll-Net Servers provide total mail
protection through "store and forward" technology.
Messages
sent to your server while you are not connected to the Internet are
stored on our high capacity mail servers. Once you are connected to
the Internet, your messages are immediately downloaded to your
Message Server.
This
design creates a transparent message service to users on your LAN.
Each user can send or check for messages at their convenience. The
technology handles the details of mail delivery without manual

| Secure |
|
As
the world becomes more interconnected, security becomes more
important. Protection of your messaging is of primary concern for
the Carroll-Net Message Server.
Security
is built in at three different levels. The first is user security.
Each e-mail address is assigned a unique account and password. This
password is stored in encrypted format on the Message Server.
Modification of passwords require authorization from the mail
administrator, who has been pre-designated as a trusted user in your
organization.
The
second level of security is the administrator’s account. A
password is required to view or change any aspect of the Message
Server’s configuration.
The
third level of security is the assignment of private IP addresses to
machines on your LAN. This means your Message Server acts as a
firewall with no possibility of anyone gaining unauthorized access.

| LDAP |
LDAP,
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, is an Internet Protocol that
email programs use to look up contact information from a server.
Using LDAP with your Message Server, will give your organization an
up-to-date global phone book that everyone can access no matter
where they are located. This will save you time and energy.
LDAP is easy to use and works with many email clients such as
Outlook, Eudora and Netscape Communicator. Ease of use is important
for any application but especially for a heavily used application
like email. The Carroll-Net support team will assist with the
initial implementation of LDAP to make for a smooth transition for
everyone in your corporation. We also work with your administrator
to set permissions to allow your designated people access to your
database and to keep your data private and secure.
LDAP Example:
Search
for all people located in Chicago who's name contains 'Fred' that
have an email address. Please return full name, email, title and
description.

Virus
Scanning Protection
Everyone is looking to protect themselves from dangerous viruses
sent through e-mail. Computer viruses can cause serious damage to
your network: files can crash, important data can disappear in
a heartbeat, your entire office productivity can be interrupted and
bring the operation of your business to a halt.
Any
of these frightening occurrences can bring a network
administrator to his knees.
So what is a computer virus? Basically it is defined as a program
that
infects documents or systems by inserting or attaching a copy of
itself or by rewriting files entirely. It operates without the
knowledge or consent of the user. When an infected file is opened,
the embedded virus is executed. A true virus is propagated by users
themselves, usually unintentionally. It is passed on to others
through infected emails, attachments, programs on disks, or shared
files.
Carroll-Net now offers dependable, Virus Protection right through
your
Message Server. The Virus Protecting Software is installed on your
Message Server during the pre-configuration process. Once installed,
your Message Server will then scan all incoming and outgoing
messages for viruses. If one is found it will be deleted immediately
and the original message will be appended with a message stating a
virus was found and deleted. As new viruses are caught, regular
virus updates will be sent automatically to your server. The
Carroll-Net staff will investigate daily warnings and provide the
updates to your server. Working together with Kaspersky Labs, one of
the world leaders in anti-virus solutions, Carroll-Net provides
cutting edge anti-virus technology to give you the peace of mind you
need.
